We all know that Google makes a lot of money, but not everyone knows how they do it, hence I though I'd create a web log about Adsense and have written this article to help people to understand their system more.

Google is a search engine, as you know. An extremely successful search engine that gets so much traffic that one sometimes wonders how many servers it needs to maintain to handle it all! They have thousands upon thousands of staff around the world and probably make billions in profits. How do they do it? Well, the answer is, of course, from advertising. They advertise, and advertise heavily.

The 2 systems they have created are Adwords and Adsense. I am not going to go into much detail, since anyone is able to read about this on Google's website, but briefly... here is what it is: Adwords is a system that advertisers use to place their ads via it, and Adsense is the result of these advertisement placements i.e. they are the ads themselves.

Google places those ads in 2 places; SEs, both: theirs as well as affiliated, and on peoples websites. - They have a very big network (the whole web) of websites and split their profits from those ads together with the web-owners, hence creating a win-win situation for all and encouraging more web masters to place their advertisements. It is the biggest ads network on earth to date (not putting my wife on this, but I am confident), and, judging by their v. fast expansion, it will be even bigger, weeks or months from now. Their pay-per-click rate (also known as PPC) varies somewhere in the margin of .01 pence to a lot more of something like 70 dollars. It depends on the quality of the content you have on your web site as well as how much advertisers are willing to pay for those visits, probably in conjunction with some other, not so important factors. They do not inform us what they pay us, the web masters, but there have estimations from the web masters that the number is most likely to be around 50 percent each side (although rate probably varies, and Google likes to have full control).

The aim behind it for the web site owners is to create a site with as many visitors as we possibly can and have as high rate of clicks as humanly possible. Of course, this opportunity attracts Many people though that give it a go with Adsense, and the good news is that a lot of those fortune-hunters fail, for various reasons, though, mainly, because those types of guys & gals do not try hard enough, make spammy and worthless sites and it all just is too much work for them. It Is good news for those who do make it, since it means they have less people to compete with.

Designing a narrowly aimed site is probably easier to rank for, because you can aim your linking strategy for this subject, therefore is going to get higher Page Rank reputation with less effort. SE's should begin recognising you as an expert in that area, hence you will gain more clicks to your web site. This is as opposed to if you created a broad subject site, where you will need to try harder in order to get similar level of PR, since you have more topics to talk about, and probably more web pages, not to mention that you are now having to create more web links, as well as more variations of these web links to more web pages - it is just not as easy. Although, once you are ranking, you will probably receive more visitors.

It mostly, in fact, depends on how much time you are willing to put in to it and how hard you are willing to work, and the chances are - not too hard (you don't want to become successful and then drop dead). Or also depends on your ability to outsource (get those foreign labour people working on your web site, and ghost-writers making your content for you, in which case it can be easy enough,if you've got the money).

Another option to consider is allowing web site readers to ad content themselves for you! Whether its with the need to be approved by either you or your web master or to make a free post without web masters approval, this strategy, if applied right, is revolutionary in terms of the work load off your chest. It will take much of the work from you, as your readers will be doing it, while you are on a nice, sunny beach in Bahamas - might just work! In my personal opinion, that would be the real turn-key business, and no one is selling those, heh. (E.g. for many that already took off, there's no web masters involvement needed, apart from little off-page optimisation work and monitoring to remain in the SE's, and this is the type of work can easily be outsourced, or partly outsourced. Content-adding is very natural for them). Of course, enabling comments might be doing just that, but those are, generally, only couple of lines, and definitely not as affective as having full paragraphs of text.

So, what has to be done by an individual in order to make money with Adsense? Well, a start up capital to outsource, some Search Engine Optimisation knowledge as well as a lot of determination will help, though essential factors are definitely the determination and good quality content that Google loves so much. Google is becoming smarter and soon only unique, quality content, which is of true value to the reader will bring you the SE's. This means that you can start creating a web site and adding fresh content two times a day or more, which will, sooner or later, pay off and you will start to rank in the SE's, prbably even without SEO. Choose a niched topic, create more long-tail keyword-aimed headlines, write the article, and you will be heading towards a very bright future, and, at that point, will likely be better off than about 98% of those that try.

When I first started out on Google Adsense I could barely make a few dollars a day. My website received a lot of traffic and believed that I needed to build hundreds or thousands of websites to earn a significant income. The following tips are tried and tested. Use these wisely and you will see your Adsense income significantly increase.

I found the layout the most important consideration to make when designing your website. Get this wrong and leave thousands of dollars on the table. The 336X220 unit performed the best for me because it resembles content on a website. I also found the best area to place your adverts below your top menu bar. This blends in with the website and having this near the top of the page increases the click through rate without making the advertising too obtrusive. If you place your advert near the bottom less people will see it and this will reduce your click through rate.

I found the color scheme the second most important aspect of Google Adsense. You need to make your adverts look like content. Use a white background on your website and let your adverts also use a white back ground and blue as the color representing the text link. This works well as it makes the advert look like content and does not look like an advert. Blue works very well to represent a link because internet users are used to seeing blue as the default color of a link in a html page. Also remember to make the url at the bottom black as well so as not to detract your user's attention from clicking the link text.

Google link units can help you to earn extra money for topics related to your theme. Locate these link units in your menu scheme and blend the colors so that they look part of your navigation system. This makes them not look like an advert and improves the click through rate substantially.

I suggest using Wordtracker to do your keyword research. I started optimizing one keyword everyday for the less competitive terms and within a few months doubled the traffic on my website. Basically find keywords with not too much competition and make sure that the content on your page matches. Optimize the Title and Heading and use the keyword 2 to 3 times in your body near the beginning and near the end of your page.

Build fully automated websites that users can upload content. Users' on my website created hundreds and thousands of pages for me saving me hundreds of hours to create content myself. Search engines spidered and indexed these pages. The more content uploaded by users meant more traffic and this meant more money from Google Adsense.

Capture your visitor's email address when they visit your website. This will give you the opportunity to send them emails over and over redirecting to specific Adsense pages and increase your income.

A picture directly positioned above your advert draws attention to it. Exercise caution here and not put any misleading pictures up due to this being against Google's terms of service if your user clicks on an advert because it looks related to your picture.

You can use this Adsense code for more accurate content targeting on pages on your website getting untargeted adverts. You need to ensure at least 20% of your content exists in between the tags for Google to interpret the content correctly and show matching adverts.
Place your most important content between the following tags:

< !– google_ad_section_end –>
This will help Adsense to target your adverts to the most important content without getting confused on the unrelated content on your web page. However, make sure you put sufficient important content between the tags otherwise your adverts may not match your content and it can take up to two weeks for this to come into effect.

You finally have your website published and you are as proud as any parent would be of a new addition to the family. Well, nearly as excited. You cannot wait for visitors to flock to your site and to gulp up everything you have to offer them. You expect to hear the cash register ringing all the time. You expect to sit back and watch the money roll in. After a while you cannot help but acknowledge that nothing is happening and that you are probably the only visitor to your website. Sounds familiar?
The above scenario is all too common on the internet and most successful webmasters started their first website anticipating huge results that never happened. They only started to become successful once they realized that the internet is not a get-rich-quick scheme but that building a successful website takes time, dedication and hard work, like any other business.

As soon as you realize your website is not getting traffic you reach a crossroad – You can take the straight and narrow road that requires more work, but that will take you to your destination, or, the broad road that seems easier to travel on but is actually only a mirage.

Many internet marketers make the mistake of taking the broad road, the easy road. It looks easy at first glance but turns out to be a road leading to nowhere. A typical case of good from far but far from good. Taking this road often involves doing business with dubious sites promising you huge amounts of traffic in exchange for cash. Money that you can often not afford to spend but feel obliged to spend thinking it is the only thing you can do to get people to visit your site. There certainly are sites out there that will deliver the traffic at the right price. Problem is that it is not the type of traffic you need. You may end up getting many “hits” but don’t be surprised if you get no sales as the people clicking on your site are often poor people in third world countries that get paid cents to click on sites but will never buy anything on the sites they visit. Sad but true. By the way, never subscribe to sites that offer to click on your Google™ Adsense™ adverts in your website. Such clicks are fraudulent. Google™ will find out about it and you may be banned from ever using their tools again.

There are many schemes out there designed to trap desperate webmasters. As a rule, do not spend any money to obtain traffic when you just start out. There is an enormous amount of valuable and free information on the internet that will help you to grow your business. Read up as much as possible on the internet and if you feel a need to invest money at a later stage in legitimate programs like Google™ Adwords™ you will be able to make an informed decision.

Remember that if something sounds too good to be true that it normally is too good to be true. Stay on the straight and narrow road to become a money maker and build a successful home based business.
